Who is looking for a job right now? Put a link to your website/portfolio. We’ll choose the number 1 designer for the week and do a Q&A with you. Make sure and put all your info in your portfolio so we’ll be able to contact you if you win.
Recently graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design (with honors); if I could only find a job so I could buy my girlfriend a birthday present for a change.
Yeah, I’m looking for more work. But I think the most frustrating aspect of this industry for me right now is 2 fold:
First, having to explain to clients that just b/c they’ve purchased Quark, InDesign or Photoshop, doesn’t necessarily mean that they have any clue about what good design is or how to accomplish it.
Second, and this is purely my opinion…unless you’re a Fortune 100 company, I don’t care how good your stuff looks–if it doesn’t sell, or cause customers to buy, you can forget how cool your designs look. Same goes for websites. It’s about driving dollars people. Everyone talks a good game when it comes to brand, but the smaller organizations have a much tougher hill to climb compared to those on the Fortune 100 list. Most of THOSE brands (Coke, Nike, Chevy, Bank of America, just to name a few) have 2 things working for them that most “mom and pop” shops don’t: a much broader reach and VERY, VERY deep pockets!
It's just me. Not another drone. Nothing corporate. Just me. When I call on a business, to gauge their interest for a website, I hate it when they tell me they don't want one. How-HOW does a business function without a website? I won't even look at a company who doesn't have a web presence. I mean, you can order your pizza online now!
You're right, Rob Rode-deep pockets help-alot. I can't afford to advertise and get my name out there and therefore, am drumming, drumming, drumming the pavement to get business. And then, when I *DO* have projects going, I don't have time to pound the pavement to get more.
I have been searching for a salary job for awhile. I feel I need to move to a bigger city. I was thinking LA/Burbank area because I know someone that is at USC for film and NY is too cold and expensive. I do get a lot of people trying to develop new websites, programs, videos etc.. But most of the time they have no money.
I live in Richmond VA and went to VCU. Its a creative town with creative people but not a lot of them with money or willing to hire graduates. Seems like every job listing is 3 to 5 years for like 35k a year. Poo Poo
Here’s to adding myself to that last of recent graduates. I am form Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. I’ve been mostly focusing on print and web graphics; although I’ve been contemplating setting up a network of creative individuals. I view myself as a muse. I do a little bit of everything creative, but primarily oil painting, creative writing, and graphic design. I do a little lo-fi jazz and secret blogging on the side, alongside getting http://www.poesismag.com going. I would love a job where I could do writing and art. Freelancing isn’t bad when it doesn’t mean contracts that go unpaid.
I am a web/print designer and illustrator and I am always looking for work. I have worked ad agencies as well as private companies. I recently started a small design community/shameless promotion site at http://www.ikernedyourmom.com Feel free to visit.
I am a freelancer looking for his next project, either print or graphics or web. Would like to connect with coders and marketing professionals.
Gripe for thought – Is it me or does it seem that too many potential clients think that since a website is only a click away, therefore a website should be designed from scratch immediately and for few dollars, because if they had the time, they’d do it themselves in a few hours or days.
I’m looking for work. I recently decided that the only thing worse than a toxic client on a freelance project would be a toxic environment that you sit in for 9 hours a day.
So back to freelance work with all the freedom of the open road!!

Hello, my name is Paul Hrusa – http://www.paulhrusa.com
I am a freelancer looking for his next project, either print or graphics or web. Would like to connect with coders and marketing professionals.
Gripe for thought – Is it me or does it seem that too many potential clients think that since a website is only a click away, therefore a website should be designed from scratch immediately and for few dollars, because if they had the time, they’d do it themselves in a few hours or days.
Anyway, I remain optimistic about 2010.
